‘Mare Britannicum’ focuses on the stories etched into the landscapes of Dunkirk and the Channel, weaving a visual narrative that explores the resilience and struggles of refugees. In 2023, 29.473 migrants made the dangerous crossing of the Channel. The number of people who died risking their lives this way is not even documented by authorities.
Beyond the confines of traditional photography, I extend my artistic expression into installations that incorporate textiles. These textiles, reminiscent of domestic objects such as blankets, cushions, and scarves, serve as a deliberate contrast to our lives, highlighting the disparity between the comfort we often take for granted and the harsh realities faced by those in the margins. By juxtaposing the familiar with the unfamiliar, I aim to provoke contemplation on the contrasts between our daily lives and the challenges confronted by those living on the fringes of society. By shedding light on the human stories within these landscapes and integrating the symbolism of domestic objects, I want to raise questions about safety and home, borders and routes, migration and humanity.
